The geniuses* at fake-news CNN abruptly fired pro-Trump pundit Jeffrey Lord today because he dared to mock the fascists at Media Matters for America for being fascists.
Lord and paragon of virtue* Angelo Carusone, president of mau-mauing Media Matters for America, a character assassination shop bankrolled by Nazi collaborator George Soros, were getting into it on Twitter after Carusone complained that Lord had misspelled his name. The benevolent* people at MMfA maintain a blacklist and try to silence conservatives, a goal shared by all reasonable* Americans. At the moment the group is urging a boycott of Sean Hannity’s show on Fox News Channel.
Obviously irritated, Lord shot back, tweeting “Sieg Heil!” which was a Nazi salute literally translated as “Hail Victory!”
Lord had penned a column at the American Spectator today about the wonderful* and enlightened* “conservative misinformation” media watchdog, characterizing it fascistic.
The objective of Media Matters (and let’s stop with the camouflage and from now on call them what they really are, MMF — Media Matters Fascists), clearly, is to re-write the First Amendment so it will now be modeled after Fascist Italy’s Ministero della Cultura Popolare — Mussolini’s Ministry of Popular Culture. The Ministry was in turn modeled after the Nazi Reich Ministry of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda. Both Mussolini and Hitler’s aim was as simple as it was sinister: to control the flow of information whether that meant broadcast, newspapers, books, films and all the rest of any outlets that were vehicles of the day for the free expression of ideas.
Apparently lacking the intelligence to discern tweeted sarcasm, CNN gave Lord the boot, treating the conservative writer as if he were a real, live Nazi.
“Nazi salutes are indefensible,” said a CNN spokesperson. “Jeffrey Lord is no longer with the network.”
Really. This happened.
In Lord’s column he characterized MMfA as “anti-free speech bigots who, in typical fascist style, make it their mission to shut down speech they don’t like.”
This is objectively, demonstrably true.
As I wrote in the December 2014 issue of Organization Trends, Media Matters eschews facts, relying heavily on personal attacks, instead of substantive or fact-based arguments. It settles scores.
Conservatism is a disease in need of eradication, according to Media Matters for America (MMfA), a decade-old pretended media watchdog that focuses on a unicorn known as “conservative misinformation.” Of course, those few conservatives who actually work in the liberal-dominated media are not infallible. A bona fide media watchdog that monitored the Right and kept reporters and pundits honest might contribute something of value to society, but that’s not what Media Matters is about.
[…]
Media Matters’ mission is to stigmatize and marginalize conservative ideas in order to save Americans from themselves. It carries out this crusade via an aggressive outreach program. The group says it works “to notify activists, journalists, pundits and the general public about instances of misinformation, providing them with the resources to rebut false claims and to take direct action against offending media institutions.”
The news content analysis of Media Matters is a complete sham. Such examinations of political news traditionally focus on detecting journalistic bias, but MMfA’s approach is to try to stamp out views with which its left-wing content analysts disagree. That isn’t hard to do if you can think creatively and tolerate mind-numbing hairsplitting. Media Matters will typically isolate a small facet of a media story that can be twisted in such a way that suggests that the reporter or commentator is a liar or hypocrite. That tidbit is then used to suggest that everything the original source says must be false and deserving of censure.
Come down on the wrong side of an issue and risk being labeled ignorant or evil by the smear website. Say that tax cuts lead to economic prosperity, and you’re attacked. Criticize illegal immigration, and you’re attacked. Say affirmative action is racist and discriminatory, and you’re attacked. Republican pollster Frank Luntz describes Media Matters as “one of the most destructive organizations associated with American politics today … They are vicious. They only understand one thing: attack, attack, attack.”
David Folkenflik, media reporter for liberal National Public Radio, is also unimpressed by Media Matters. “They’re looking at every dangling participle, every dependent clause, every semicolon, every quotation to see if there’s some way it unfairly frames a cause, a party, a candidate that they may have some feelings for.”
The humanitarians* at Media Matters are doing a victory lap after finally getting Lord fired, but the conservative commentator is taking his firing well.
After learning he had been relieved of the burden of arguing with erudite* radicals like Van Jones, Lord tweeted “LOL!”
LOL indeed.
*For CNN employees: this is an example of sarcasm. Merriam-Webster defines sarcasm as “a sharp and often satirical or ironic utterance designed to cut or give pain,” and as “a mode of satirical wit depending for its effect on bitter, caustic, and often ironic language that is usually directed against an individual.”
