Investigative journalist Matthew Vadum appeared on NewsX World late at night on July 18, 2026 (July 19 in India) to analyze the arrest of social media influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate in Miami, Florida, by U.S. Marshals on a British extradition warrant. The brothers face serious charges including rape and human trafficking, which they deny.

During the discussion, Vadum addressed the brothers’ celebrity status and public interest, saying the brothers “are at this point famous for being famous” and “that’s why people care about them.” He commented on their large social media following and questioned the societal value of their activities.

Communist Cuba’s release of the artist and political prisoner Luis Manuel Otero Alcantara was also discussed.

The co-founder of the San Isidro movement, he was released after serving five years in prison on politically motivated charges. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who is of Cuban ancestry himself, welcomed his arrival and called for the dictatorship to release more than 700 remaining Cuban political prisoners.

Vadum questioned the motives of the Cuban government.

“It’s good that Cuba let one of its political prisoners go,” Vadum said. “He was imprisoned because he was deemed to be an enemy of the communist regime… Typically, when Cuba exiles political prisoners like this it is not a humanitarian gesture. It is an effort to neutralize their influence within Cuba.”
